IBM to support Egypt’s government with AI skills building

Egypt’s government has signed a 5-year agreement with IBM aimed at building AI skills within the nation’s workforce. The agreement is a key part of the country’s National Artificial Intelligence Strategy 2025–2030.

Announced at the start of this year, the National Artificial Intelligence Strategy 2025–2030 aims to rapidly accelerate Egypt’s AI infrastructure, with the ambition to support AI-driven economic and social development, foster over 250 AI startups, and train 30,000 AI professionals. The nationwide program is part of the country’s broader goal to increase the ICT sector’s share of GDP to 7.7% by 2030.

The partnership with IBM is focused on building capabilities in AI and Generative AI. IBM will deliver specialized training through IBM SkillsBuild, a free education program aimed at increasing access to technology education. This includes foundational and advanced learning paths in AI, along with an introductory course on quantum computing.

The Ministry of Communications and Information Technology will meanwhile support the initiative by facilitating access to training venues, curating candidate selection, and integrating IBM into key national digital transformation and technology events.

“This collaboration marks an important step toward achieving one of the strategic objectives of the National Artificial Intelligence Strategy: expanding the local talent pool and deepening expertise in the field of AI,” said Amr Talaat, Minister of Communications and Information Technology. “It supports ongoing efforts to maximize the benefits of AI technologies in advancing digital transformation and driving economic growth.”

“The agreement reflects the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology’s commitment to equip local AI professionals with the digital competencies needed to keep pace with technological advancements and meet the demands of the future job market.”

Marwa Abbas, General Manager and Technology Leader of IBM for North East Africa added: “This agreement reflects IBM’s ongoing commitment to Egypt’s digital transformation journey. Through this program, we’re bridging skills gaps, empowering youth, and championing ethical AI practices.”
