Grant Thornton appoints Anand Balasubramanian as partner in UAE business

Grant Thornton has welcomed a new partner in its UAE business: Anand Balasubramanian.

Appointed a partner in the Business Risk Services practice, Anand Balasubramania brings over 25 years of consulting experience across the Gulf Cooperation Council, Asia-Pacific and the United States to the professional services firm.

He joins Grant Thornton from PwC, where he was a partner and led the Financial Services Risk Advisory and ESG practices. He previously held senior roles at EY, Oracle (in its consulting arm), GE, and ICRA, with a strong focus on the risk and finance domains.

Having been based in the Middle East for the last 16 years, Balasubramania has built a strong network of clients and relations, particularly within the financial services sector. He advises central banks, regulators, development finance institutions, and commercial banks on risk analytics, climate stress testing, regulatory inspections, and AI-ML driven digital transformation of risk functions.

Commenting on the appointment, Hisham Farouk, CEO of Grant Thornton in the UAE, said: “We are delighted to welcome Anand to the UAE business.”

“His deep expertise in risk, analytics, and ESG – combined with decades of leadership across global markets – will further strengthen our ability to support clients navigating an increasingly complex environment. Anand’s reputation in the financial services sector and his track record of driving meaningful transformation make him an exceptional addition to our partnership.”

Grant Thornton’s UAE business has around 800 staff working across offices in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and Sharjah. The firm is one of the fastest growing country businesses in Grant Thornton’s global network.
