Technique Works shares its perspective on HSEQ’s growing importance in the UAE
At the latest business event hosted by the Netherlands Business Council UAE, Obeida Brinkman – partner at Technique Works – shared his perspective on the growing importance of health, safety, environment and quality (HSEQ) in the region, and how the firm supports clients in achieving operational excellence.
Established in 1997 and licensed under the Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the Netherlands Business Council UAE is the representative body for Dutch companies and professionals operating in the region. The network has more than 170 members, ranging from leading multinational corporations and local businesses to SMEs and startups, and brings them together to foster growth, knowledge exchange, and meaningful connections.
Each year, the Council organises more than 30 events, focusing on networking and innovation. The most recent event was held in conjunction with the Belgian Business Council Dubai, offering participants a broader Benelux perspective.
“The event represented an alignment of two European economic engines operating within the highly dynamic and progressive Gulf environment,” says Obeida Brinkman, partner at Technique Works. “Our aim was to connect with leaders who are actively addressing high-risk operational challenges and shifting compliance from a checklist exercise to a proactive culture of performance.”
A key message Brinkman highlighted was that given the UAE’s extensive portfolio of capital infrastructure projects and its diverse mix of high-risk industries (including oil & gas and petrochemicals), organisations must remain highly aware of the operational risks inherent in their activities.
“As the UAE accelerates large-scale infrastructure, energy, and industrial development projects that demand stringent operational standards, HSEQ is becoming increasingly important. This shift is being driven by stronger regulatory enforcement, alongside a growing focus on protecting workers, reducing environmental impact, and ensuring consistent quality delivery across sectors.”
With deep expertise in the HSEQ domain, Technique Works is well positioned to support clients in adopting best practices and delivering measurable results. While the consulting firm is headquartered in the Netherlands, its roots are firmly grounded in the Gulf: “Our company’s journey actually began here in the region more than 20 years ago, particularly within the logistics sector in Saudi Arabia and Bahrain,” Brinkman explains.
Since then, the firm has expanded its presence across the Middle East and established operations in Europe, earning the trust of some of the industry’s leading names, including Johnson & Johnson and KLM.
“We are doubling down on our ambitions in the Gulf and remain confident in the region’s long-term business environment”, Brinkman noted.
