Bauer Aviation Advisory adds Michael Kerkloh to advisory board
One month after installing its advisory board, UAE-based Bauer Aviation Advisory has added a fifth high-profile member to the group.
Michael Kerkloh becomes the third German on the advisory board, following the earlier appointments of Stefan Pichler (the former CEO of Royal Jordanian and Air Berlin) and Tilmann Gabriel (a former Lufthansa senior executive and training captain). Kerkloh brings over three decades of experience in the aviation sector to the management consultancy.
Between 2002 and 2019, Kerkloh was the CEO of Munich Airport, leading all aspects of operations, from strategy and master planning to passenger experience, marketing, ground handling and compliance. Under Kerkloh’s leadership, Munich Airport grew into one of Europe’s ten largest airports and received 5-Star status from Skytrax Institute – at the time the first European airport to be awarded this highest seal of quality.
Over the past three years he gained extensive experience in the Middle East, serving as a Supervisory Board Member at Oman Aviation Group, the parent of among others Oman Airports and Oman Air, a Muscat-headquartered airline with a fleet size of around fifty.
“Michael is internationally recognised and well respected as a highly experienced aviation professional who complements our team,” said Linus Benjamin Bauer, the founder of Bauer Aviation Advisory. “His appointment reflects the emphasis we place on providing unrivalled strategic management expertise to support the recovery and growth of the regional aviation industry.”
Kerkloh will (not surprisingly) focus mainly on Bauer Aviation Advisory’s offerings for airports. “Airports need to embrace the new era of post-pandemic air travel. I am very much looking forward to working closely with Michael and drawing upon his experience in shaping a sustainable future for airports.” added Bauer.
Commenting on his decision to join Bauer Aviation Advisory, Kerkloh remarked, “Joining the advisory board during a transformational period for the aviation sector presents a great opportunity to bring my experience to support the industry recovery in the Middle East and beyond. Bauer Aviation Advisory has rapidly generated trust and strong credibility among the region’s top aviation players, and I look forward to working with the team to deliver strategic counsel.”
Kerkloh will combine his advisory role at Bauer Aviation Advisory with his Supervisory Board member role at Lufthansa, which is currently working with consultants from Boston Consulting Group on its post-Covid-19 strategy.
The two other members of Bauer Aviation Advisory’s advisory board are Laila Hareb Almheiri (formerly a leader at the General Civil Aviation Authority in the UAE) and Aya Sadder (the founder of Intelak, MENA region’s first aviation, travel and tourism incubator).
Bauer Aviation Advisory launched in the region in the summer of 2020, and has since grown to team of 35 (affiliated) consultants, including former consultants from Bain & Company, the Big Four and Roland Berger.
