Johannes Distler, a partner at Roland Berger in its Dubai office, has been appointed Chief Strategy Officer of global logistics group Aramex.

One of the region’s leading strategy consulting firms is seeing its next alumnus join corporate executive circles, following the departure of twelve-year company member Johannes Distler to Aramex. The German national, who studied in Germany, Switzerland and the US, joined Roland Berger in 2009 in Europe, before relocating to the UAE two years later.

At the consulting firm, Distler specialised in performance improvement, restructuring and large-scale transformation projects, and was a member of the Restructuring, Performance and Transformation practice. His track record includes leading restructuring, transformation and post-merger integration projects in sectors including transportation, tourism, logistics, consumer goods, and retail.

He also gained in-depth expertise in the maritime sector, having worked on a large number of projects for global and regional shipping companies, port/terminal operators and shipyards.

One and a half years after being elevated to the firm’s partnership, Distler now takes on a new challenge at Aramex, a Dubai headquartered global player in the logistics industry. The company’s over 17,000 employees help companies with solutions including logistics, transportation, domestic express delivery, freight forwarding, and consumer retail services.

Commenting on his new challenge, Distler took to LinkedIn to state, “I am beyond thankful to the Roland Berger family for all that I have learned and I am grateful for the privilege to have worked with amazing colleagues and clients around the world. It has been an honour to serve so many of our Middle East clients in the last 10 years and I am especially proud of having been part of the growth of our Dubai office for the last decade.”

“I am equally proud and humbled to Aramex – a company with the vision to deliver a seamless logistics and delivery experience that connects the globe. I am excited to support the team in charting out the way forward for the business in the dynamic logistics industry.”

In the role of Chief Strategy Officer, Distler will lead the corporate strategy development and execution of the group, as well as the international expansion and mergers & acquisitions agenda. He will report to CEO Othman Aljeda, who took the reins from Bashar Obeid in May this year.
