TransformationX welcomes Marcell Vollmer as senior advisor

Young management consultancy TransformationX has received a boost to its growth ambitions with the appointment of Marcell Vollmer – the former Chief Procurement Officer of SAP.

Launched earlier this year by a group of ex-consultants spearheaded by founder Arun Bruce (a two-decade Boston Consulting Group veteran), TransformationX is boutique firm that specialises in value transformations with a focus on supply chain.

Since its inception, the Dubai-based firm has grown into a 10-strong team operating in the Gulf Cooperation Council. The latest team hire, Marcell Vollmer, joins the firm’s senior ranks with an impressive career spanning leadership positions in technology and consulting.

Spending most of his career at SAP, Vollmer grew the ranks to become Chief Procurement Officer – leading over 500 professionals for source-to-pay who managed more than €5 billion in global spend volume. He also served as Chief Operations Officer at SAP Ariba and Chief Digital Officer at SAP’s cloud business group.

Vollmer later on had a stint as Chief Innovation Officer at Celonis (a German company specialised in process mining software), worked for Boston Consulting Group as a partner in its Operations practice, and served as the Chief Executive Officer of Prospitalia Group (a procurement provider to the healthcare industry).

“I’m privileged to have worked with Marcell during our time at Boston Consulting Group – he is one of the finest in the area of procurement and digitalisation,” said Bruce, who spent 14 years with Boston Consulting Group in India before crossing to the Dubai practice mid-2017.

An idea that he had been sitting on for a while, in March this year Bruce formally realised his entrepreneurial dream by setting up TransformationX. “TransformationX is an idea whose time has finally come… we are boutique consulting firm focussed on transforming companies through deep expertise, refreshingly new digital tools, and happy teams,” he noted in the firm’s launch statement.

Early work from TransformationX includes helping a packaging company transform, driving procurement excellence at a leading utilities player, and supporting a manufacturer with digitalisation and cost excellence.

Commenting on his affiliation with the firm, Vollmer said: “I am truly excited to be joining the leadership team at TransformationX, and look forward to helping Middle East clients transform and digitalise their supply chains.”
