SDAIA working with Oliver Wyman on advancing Generative AI capabilities

The Saudi Data and Artificial Intelligence Authority has signed a memorandum of cooperation with Oliver Wyman, aimed at enhancing Saudi Arabia’s capabilities in artificial intelligence.

In yet another step that will help accelerate the adoption of advanced artificial intelligence (AI) in the Kingdom, the Saudi Data and Artificial Intelligence Authority (SDAIA) has asked Oliver Wyman to oversee the exploration of Generative AI use cases across various fields. Using this information, the SDAIA will be able to prioritize its investments and support to organizations across the nation.

Oliver Wyman will also conduct research on best practices, globally and in the region, in order to provide SDAIA with recommendations on how Generative AI should be managed and rolled-out, to ensure its potential is captured while remaining aligned with ethical standards and regulations.

If done well, that potential for KSA could be huge – a recent report from Oliver Wyman for example suggested that Generative AI could add up to SAR 90 billion to Saudi Arabia’s GDP by 2030. That is for Saudi Arabia alone, with another report from fellow strategy consultancy McKinsey & Company anticipating that Generative AI could end up generating up to $4.4 trillion in economic value added worldwide.

In preparation for the AI wave, SDAIA has set out to develop the ‘Kingdom AI Quotient Framework’, an approach that will systematically help government entities and enterprises with measuring their readiness towards AI across a number of areas. The model consequently also will inform organizations what measures are needed to beef up their AI maturity.

The ‘Kingdom AI Quotient Framework’ will be based by Oliver Wyman’s thought leadership and expertise in the AI space, with its consultants tasked with tailoring the model for SDAIA and the specifics of the Saudi market.

The memorandum of cooperation was signed by Abdulelah AlBarrak, partner at Oliver Wyman in Saudi Arabia, and Abdullah bin Sulaiman Al-Khudairi, the Chief Executive of the Strategy Management Office at SDAIA.

Other consulting firms supporting SDAIA along its AI journey include Accenture and IBM Consulting. Both have also recently signed memorandums with the Saudi agency.
