Bain & Company partners with World Green Economy Organization at COP29

Global strategy consulting firm Bain & Company has announced that it will serve as the official knowledge partner of the World Green Economy Organization at the upcoming COP29 in Azerbaijan.
Held in Baku from November 11 to 22, the 29th UN Climate Change Conference (COP29) will bring together leaders from business, politics and governments to discuss some of the world’s most pressing climate and environmental topics. Around 50,000 delegates, including representatives from about 200 countries, have so far confirmed their attendance at the high-profile business meeting.
During the COP29 conference, the World Green Economy Organization (WGEO) will, in collaboration with other partners, host a Pavilion in the Blue Zone, where the organization will address a wide range of topics including climate change, green supply chains, circular business models, sustainable finance, transport decarbonization, gender equality, nature-based capital, food security, green tourism, and more.
As its knowledge partner, Bain & Company will organize and moderate two panel discussions at the Pavilion, titled ‘Materiality as a Lever to Accelerate Sustainability’ and ‘Circular Transformation of Industries’. These panels will explore transformative strategies in sustainability, emphasizing transparency and accountability as well as innovative approaches to circularity that are crucial for building future economic and environmental resilience.
Bain & Company’s delegation contributing to the partnership is spearheaded by Jenny Davis-Peccoud, the firm’s Global Leader of Sustainability & Responsibility, and also includes three Middle East-based partners: Wissam Yassine (UAE), Onur Candar and Volkan Kara (Istanbul).
Yassine stated: “A key theme at COP28 in Dubai was to move from ambition to action. We believe it is equally important to move from action to accountability. Focusing on material topics that are the most relevant for a given business and disclosing performance on those topics is a key lever to drive sustainability transformation. In our panel, we will explore some of the key findings from our work on this with businesses in the MENA region.”
Davis-Peccoud added: “Embracing circularity within industries not only mitigates environmental impact but also enhances economic efficiency and business growth. At COP29, we aim to showcase during our panel session how circular economy models can create enduring value and contribute to a sustainable future.”
Other delegation members at COP29 in Baku include Cate Hight and Torsten Lichtenau from its US offices, and the Italian Roberto Prioreschi.
Dubbed the world’s most important climate conference, previous editions of the UN Climate Change Conference were held in Glasgow, Sharm el-Sheikh and Dubai. In the run-up to the event, Azerbaijan’s President Ilham Aliyev said that the nation is looking forward to play its part in advancing the critical climate change agenda, building on the discussions and achievements from previous conferences.
