IBM opens new office in Qatar’s capital city Doha
Following months of preparation, IBM has inaugurated its new office in Doha, the capital city of Qatar.
The new office, launched on the sidelines of the Qatar Global AI Summit, underscores IBM’s focus on expanding its presence in Qatar, which the company described as a “promising market with significant growth potential”.
That outlook comes on the back of Qatar’s ambitious long-term strategy, known as National Vision 2030, which aims to significantly lift the country’s economy while providing its people with a high standard of living. Much of the economic plans centre around diversification from oil-revenues into other sectors, with digital a key part that is driving the different pillars of National Vision 2030.
“The opening of our new office in Qatar reflects IBM’s commitment to supporting Qatar’s accelerated digital transformation journey and contributing to unlocking new levels of innovation by providing our clients with IBM’s leading technological solutions and expertise,” said Shukri Eid, General Manager of IBM for the Gulf, Levant, and Pakistan.
“We are dedicated to supporting Qatar’s adoption of transformative technologies, which play a vital role in achieving the country’s digital aspirations,” he added.
IBM provides public and private sector organisations with a full range of technology services and solutions. Its consulting arm meanwhile, IBM Consulting, helps shape digital strategies and bring those to life through implementation services.
Wissam Shmait, General Manager of IBM in Qatar, said that in addition to serving local clients and partners, the new Doha office will also help the government develop the nation’s broader digital ecosystem, which acts as a catalyst for innovation.
During the inauguration ceremony, Sami Mohammed Al Shammari, Assistant Undersecretary for Infrastructure and Operations Affairs at the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, stated: “We are pleased to witness the expansion of IBM’s presence in Qatar and its role in supporting our journey towards building an advanced digital future.”
“This step is not merely a commercial expansion but a partnership aimed at empowering various sectors in the country to leverage the latest technologies and digital solutions. It also opens new horizons for collaboration between the public and private sectors. We remain committed to further strengthening a robust and advanced digital infrastructure that contributes to building a knowledge-based economy.”
In recent years, Qatar has welcomed a host of leading consulting firms to its shore, including the likes of Boston Consulting Group and Roland Berger.
IBM itself now has offices in three GCC countries, the UAE, Saudi Arabia and Qatar, as well as offices in several Arabic-speaking North African countries such as Egypt, Morocco, and Tunisia. Globally, the technology and consulting giant serves clients in 150+ countries.
