Heidrick & Struggles has elevated Markus Wiesner – the former boss of Aon and Mercer in the Middle East – to Regional Managing Partner for its Consulting division across Asia Pacific and the Middle East region.

Dubai-based Markus Wiesner already was the Managing Partner of Consulting for Emerging Markets, and now sees his mantle expanded to lead the firm’s offices in the UAE, China, India, Japan, South Korea, Singapore and Australia.

Heidrick & Struggles is most known for its executives search services at board and management levels, the firm however also has a consulting wing. Launched in 2017 globally, Heidrick & Struggles Consulting supports its clients with human capital consultancy, organisation and team effectiveness, capability building and culture shaping services.

Wiesner will now lead this according to him “fast-growing offering in Asia Pacific and the Middle East”, and has been tasked with further expanding its portfolio at a time when clients across the region are facing unprecedented changes to their leadership and organisational make-up.

“I hope to continue working closely with our search and consulting colleagues to expand our capabilities and work with leaders and boards to build organizations that thrive,” said Wiesner.

Wiesner is a heavy-hitter in the Middle East human capital consulting scene. Prior to joining Heidrick & Struggles, he was the CEO Middle East & Africa for Aon Hewitt (the consulting wing of Aon) and Managing Director Middle East for Mercer (the HR consulting arm of Marsh & McLennan Companies – the parent of Oliver Wyman).

As an advisor, he led and worked on projects in over 20 countries with major global organisations, advising C-suite executives on strategic organisation and human resource issues. His track record has turned the Austrian national into a common face in local and international media as well as regional radio and TV.

Wiesner, who has been based in the Middle East since 2013, succeeds Ian Johnston, who served as the APAC Heidrick Consulting Lead for the past two years and has now returned to Europe.

Commenting on the appointment, the Global Managing Partner of Heidrick Consulting Andrew LeSueur said, “Markus has shown tremendous ability in growing client relationships and scaling our consulting business. His ability to connect clients’ strategic needs with the firm’s ability to deliver our expertise makes him ideally suited for this role.”
