BrazilCapgemini bets big on Egypt with 3,000-strong hiring drive
Global information technology and consulting company Capgemini has announced a major recruitment drive in Egypt, as the firm seeks to establish Cairo as major outsourcing hub within its global delivery network.
Launched in October last year, Capgemini’s Global Delivery Center in Egypt has been set up to meet growing client demand for areas such as cloud infrastructure, intelligent operations, engineering, research and development, data science, and artificial intelligence, among others.
The Cairo-based center provides these services to Capgemini clients worldwide, with a focus on clients operating in similar time zone regions, Europe and the Middle East.
At a press conference held last week, Capgemini’s Egypt CEO Hossam Seif El-Din charted its ambitions for the Delivery Center, unveiling that it has already grown to a team of 200 in the past six months, and aims to hire a further 3,000 over the next three years.
Asked why French-origin Capgemini is betting big on Egypt, Seif El-Din pointed to a number of drivers, including the country’s strategic location and time convergence with Europe and the Middle East, the human capital base (who are notably proficient in Arabic and English), the robust ICT infrastructure, and Egypt’s competitiveness from a cost perspective.
Cairo also attracted the firm’s interest thanks to its large population of IT graduates: every year, around 100,000 students graduate from the city’s universities with a degree in science, technology, and computer engineering.
According to The Economist, Egypt ranks as one of the world’s leading locations for technology delivery services.
The new center will support a range of Capgemini’s service lines, including consulting (Capgemini Invent), technology, and business process outsourcing (the managed services division).
“We are looking forward to working together with our partners, clients, and the Egyptian government to unlock growth potential in the industry, increasing the Egyptian competitiveness in the ICT sector, and thereby contributing to driving the Egyptian economy forward,” Seif El-Din said.
To accommodate the growth plans, Capgemini is on the verge of moving to a new premise in Cairo. With an area of 10,000 square meters, the office will be able to house up to 1,600 employees. The listed IT and consulting group is also in the process of concluding partnership agreements with leading Egyptian universities to attract graduate talent.
He added that the company’s headquarters in Egypt will provide technology services in computing, technology consulting, design, governance, quality testing and, especially in the field of supply chains, engineering research and development services in the automotive industry, embedded software and electronic circuit design.
Globally, Capgemini has over 360,000 staff who combined generate revenues of roughly €22 billion – a record for the 55-year-old group.
