Wipro promotes Vinay Firake to CEO of APMEA business
Wipro has selected Middle East-based Vinay Firake as the new Chief Executive Officer for its APMEA business unit.
In his new role, Vinay Firake will lead Wipro’s teams in Asia Pacific, India, Middle East, and Africa. The business is Wipro’s largest geographical unit, mainly due to the inclusion of its home market India, where the IT services giant has more than 100,000 employees across 21 locations.
In the Middle East, Wipro has over 5,500 staff in multiple countries, with Saudi Arabia and the UAE its largest markets. Firake himself operates out of the firm’s Dubai office.
A veteran of the company, Firake has been with Wipro for 26 years, holding various leadership roles in Europe and North America. His most recent role was Senior Vice President and Managing Director of Wipro in the Nordics. Prior to that, he led the Manufacturing & Automotive industry vertical, and served as Global Head for the Enterprise Digital Operations & Platforms business.
“Vinay has successfully led Wipro in diverse regions globally and is the perfect candidate for this role,” said Srini Pallia, Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of Wipro. “He has the expertise and vast experience to spearhead our business in APMEA, one of our most promising regions. Vinay has had a great track record in the Nordics, and I am confident that he will bring the same rigor and success to APMEA.”
Commenting on his appointment, Firake said, “I am honored to take on this leadership role, and spearhead a pivotal region in the growing technology landscape. I look forward to collaborating with our skilled team to expand our capabilities in this market and drive innovation.”
Firake succeeds Anis Chenchah, who has stepped down to pursue opportunities outside the organization.
