Abu-Dhabi-based district cooling specialist Tabreed is embarking on a new digital transformation, and has picked SAP and Deloitte as partners of choice. Focus areas are data analytics and operational improvements.

District cooling is use of cold water systems to cool offices, homes and other facilities. Tabreed has been supporting a high-temperature Middle East with district cooling since launching in 1998, having supplied the Burj Khalifa, Dubai Opera, Etihad Towers, the Abu Dhabi World Trade Centre, and several other big-ticket clients.

With temperatures rising and sustainability in focus, district cooling is touted for over 8% compound annual growth to be a $15 billion plus market by 2026 – according to Global Market Insights. For Tabreed, keeping pace will mean using advanced technology for efficiency and value. Deloitte and SAP are now set to drive this transformation.

Tabreed - Essential for progress

A host of SAP solutions will be deployed. SAP S/4 Hana is a cloud-based enterprise resource planning tool that embodies artificial intelligence, machine learning and advanced analytics to enable intelligent automation. The solution will help Tabreed gain real-time insights on its substantial assets – spanning 86 plants that provide over 1.4 million refrigeration tonnes of cooling.

“Access to real-time data would unlock additional analytical capabilities which further drive our financial and operational competitiveness and enhance our value add to our clients,” noted Tabreed CEO Bader Saeed Al Lamki. Also in the package is SAP Ariba, a procurement software that supports better contract and supply chain management – all of which are priorities for Tabreed.

Rounding things off, the company is investing in SAP SuccessFactors and SAP Analytics Cloud: the former is a package of engagement, HR, payrolling and talent management software to build a better employee experience, while the latter is a data visualisation tool that enables monitoring and decision-making.

High-value partners

The transformation is far-reaching, and Deloitte will leverage years of experience as a global provider of SAP solutions to help bring value to the project. The Big Four accounting and advisory firm’s Middle East outfit recently won three separate SAP excellence awards for enabling growth, innovation and SAP S/4 Hana implementation.

SAP expertise aside, Deloitte was picked as implementation partner for its broader digital capacity to oversee far-reaching changes in process design, change management and targeted operating model improvement. The selection followed a lengthy search and due diligence by Tabreed among consultants in the region.

SAP Middle East South senior vice president Sergio Maccotta praised the selection, noting Tabreed’s clear digital vision as key to unlocking value. “As an intelligent enterprise, Tabreed can scale up on our UAE public cloud data centre, exchange best practices from our utilities industry leadership and drive new digital business models.”

For Deloitte Consulting’s Middle East CEO Tim Parr, the project embodies key modern principles of sustainability. “By creating a more energy efficient system, and reducing carbon monoxide emissions, Tabreed is aligned with the current global focus on climate, and Deloitte is honoured to be collaborating on this front.”
